IDAC - KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

The Baldwin County Board of Education recognizes the importance of Kindergarten education and believes that much crucial learning occurs before age six.

It shall be the policy of this school district to provide all children with an equal opportunity to become prepared for a successful first-grade experience and to acquire the foundations for academic progress throughout the students’ educational careers.

This school district offers a full-day Kindergarten program providing classroom instruction for a minimum of four and one-half hours daily for a 180-day school year.

To be eligible for enrollment in a state-supported Kindergarten program, a child must attain the age of five by September 1, except as otherwise provided by subsection (b) of O.C.G.A. §20-2-150.

Participation in Kindergarten programs by eligible children shall be voluntary. However, according to state law, all children enrolled in Georgia public schools for 20 or more school days prior to their seventh birthday shall become subject to all of the provisions of O.C.G.A. §20-2-690 through §20-2-702 and the rules and regulations of the Georgia Department of Education relating to compulsory attendance. This provision remains applicable even though such children have not attained six years of age.

The Baldwin County School District shall conform to the Georgia Department of Education guidelines and instruments in determining student grade placement.

Whenever the decision is made not to promote a child to the first grade, the local school district shall document the reasons for the decision not to promote according to guidelines established by the State Department of Education.

No student shall remain in Kindergarten for more than two years.
