GAA - GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR STAFF DEVELOPMENT

The Baldwin County Board of Education embraces the concept of staff development for all employees.

For the purpose of providing sound and effective staff development programs, staff development is defined as:

An organized program conducted under the auspices of the Baldwin County Board of Education and refers to all activities carried out by the system or school to promote organizational, professional and personal growth and development. Its ultimate goal is better learning for students and continuous responsible self-development for all personnel; and, encompasses planned efforts to meet the needs of the system, a school and the individual.

The Baldwin County Board of Education offers opportunities for staff development based upon the following beliefs.

1. We believe that both individuals and organizations have the inherent responsibility to define and achieve their own excellence.

2. We believe that it is the responsibility of all employees of the Baldwin County Board of Education to continue their professional growth and development as a career long process.

3. We believe that it is the responsibility of the Baldwin County Board of Education to provide opportunities for the professional growth and development of all employees.

4. We believe that staff development involves and benefits everyone in the school system.

5. We believe that staff development is a developmental process and an on-going problem solving process.

6. We believe that effective staff development is based on theory and research and proved in practice.

7. We believe that an effective staff development model provides for the following stages: readiness, planning, training, implementation, and evaluation.
